Texas Time Trials Press Release
The 2008 Texas Time Trial was truly a
success.
Sure!
It was a World Class International Event with 6 riders
from other contries, including Canada, Great Britian,
and Mexico, not to mention riders from about 20 states
here in the USA including Alaska. But now we want to
take the time to thank our local racers, volunteers
and sponsors. So take a deep breath and read on.

Our
main event is the Tejas 500, and it draws the lion's
share of racers. In the Male solo division, Wayne Dunlap
the RBA from Austin, placed 4th and our own Mark Metcalfe
placed 8th. In the Female solo race, LSR's females placed
2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Shellene Foster, Sharon Stevens and
Vickie Tyer all finished the 500 miles they set out
to do and also all qualified for RAAM.
Ladies are you signed up for RAAM already? LSR's tandem
extravaganza Pat and Charlie Jenkins were the first
tandem team ever to attempt, much less complete this
hilly 500 mile course thus grabbing the course record.
LSR's bent racers Steve and Peggy Petty, Bud Baker and
Ray Torrey, formed the team" Mixed Bag of Nuts" to set
a new course record for a 4 person mixed team of
recumbent racers. Team "Reclining Flyers" made up of
Brad Bedell, Paul Brown, Greg Gross, and Mark Leuck,
a four man recumbent team also set a new course record.
LSR's Dex Tooke formed a team from Del Rio and set the
new record for a 4 person mixed team, with his team
"Dr Fart." Local cycling club "The Manly Bulge" put
together a 4 male team that easily finished the 500
miles, gotta love that name and these guys know how
to have a good time
doing it. LSR and other Texas Rando Club members Jeremy
Davis, Herb Hepler, Mark Lane, Roger Myers, Mark Ashlock,
Dennis Cook, Arturo Ortiz, and Edward Robinson were
able to put together two teams, Team Force and Team
Re-Enforce which also easily finished the 500 miler.

The
Texas 24 Hour Time Trial had only one Local LSR / FWBA
member Todd "Hot Toddie" Martin took 3rd place with
a strong ride..
The
12 Hour National Championship was highlighted by two
LSR males Pat Nolan and Bryan McKenney duke'n it out
till the last lap, where Bryan flatted and Pat rolled
to victory. Great race to the both of you. LSR's Richard
Whittenberg was right on their heels with third place,
Carl Funk with 5th, and Ryan Lange with 9th. Bryan Gibbon
put his brand new bent to the test to earn a first place
in that division. Not sure how the "Manly Bulge" put
together a mixed team, but they did and earned 1st place
in the mixed team division of the 12 hour.
In
the 6 Hour Shoot-out, yep you guessed it Greg Phillips
won first place, by 20 miles.

New
for this year was the 20 mile Sprint, LSR and FWBA members
jumped on this race. Pam Wright earned 2nd place after
volunteering with little or no sleep for 2 days. Cheri
Brown (also a volunteer) wheeled her way into 3rd place.
Kalleen got 4th and she did not have much sleep under
her belt either. JJ (AKA Jeanne Juneau) got 6th , and
Bob Riggs' wife Marianna in her first ever race got
7th. In the men's solo we had Bob Riggs our Houston
RBA,
LSR / FWBA member Chris Hill (also a volunteer), and
Nathan Skaggs. In the tandem race "We're Smokin' was
Jim and Katrine Rimbey.

One
of the coolest things about this race is that mixed
in with all the
world class athletes from all over the planet are racers
like you and me out having fun, racing against the clock
to see just what we can do.
A
number of course records were set and several of the
racers were able to qualify for Race Across America.

We want to thank all our sponsors for the help
that we received from them because without them
this race would not be possible.
More information and pictures will be posted in the
next few days so come back and get the full story.
